Mission Success!

We met the challenges and we finished strong!

The WOGO team traveled to Guatemala with 67 team members. 27 of them were new to WOGO and of those, 24
had never participated in a medical mission before. This is the most newbie’s we’ve had since we began and we are proud to say they showed up and showed out!

Our team completed 40 full knee replacement surgeries. Our patients were up and walking, and moving just hours after their surgeries. Our PT team did an excellent job preparing them to go home.

We provided new athletic shoes to every patient thanks to our partnership with Soles4Souls. In addition, we visited 2 schools outside of Antigua, and provided new shoes to nearly 500 children.

This first trip back had some challenges. We had patients drop out due to positive Covid tests. We had flights cancelled and moved due to the airline issues the world is experiencing. We had shipping issues, and lost packages.

Those challenges did not slow us down. We achieved a successful trip. Yes, we did less knees than we had hoped, but despite this we were still able to change many lives.

We finished our trip with a celebration which included inviting our guest surgeons to join as full WOGO Surgeons! Join us in welcoming Dr. Megan Jimenez and Dr. Linda Suleiman as full WOGO Surgeons – we are so excited!

This year’s team included members from 19 states!

The team also began making plans for the coming years and our future trips. We can’t wait to tell you about them!

You can support WOGO and our mission by making a donation to our team. Every dollar helps us on our journey to continue providing life-changing, joint replacement surgeries to people who would not otherwise have the opportunity to receive it.  Follow our adventures on Instagram and Twitter too – this way you won’t miss anything!
