Looking Back at Guyana

The WOGO team traveled to Georgetown, Guyana with 72 team members in November 2023. We had quite a large team, our size increased because we brought 5 Residents, Students and a Fellow along with us – always wonderful when we can do this.

The team completed an extraordinary 62 total knee replacement surgeries. Patients were up and walking and moving just hours after their surgeries. Our PT team was joined by a wonderful group of Physical Therapy student trainees who were eager to help, and really amazing with the patients.

WOGO’s achievement was featured in the Georgetown newspapers and TV news.

Through our partnership with Soles4Souls, we were able to provide every one of our patients with new athletic shoes to help with their physical therapy progress. In addition, we provided the children being treated in the Pediatric Unit with new shoes – and provided new shoes for all of their siblings. While the entire team was not able to participate in distribution this year, we were all very proud of our contributions and support of the community.

Exciting news, we added a new surgeon to our ranks, Dr. Kimberly Tucker of Arizona. She traveled with us as a Guest Surgeon, and was invited to join as a full WOGO surgeon while we were still in Guyana. We are so thrilled to have her! Our roster of surgeons is now 10 strong.

You can support WOGO and our mission by making a donation to our team. Every dollar helps us on our journey to continue providing life-changing, joint replacement surgeries to people who would not otherwise have the opportunity to receive it.  Follow our adventures on Instagram and Twitter too – this way you won’t miss anything!
