A Short Visit to Antigua

Last weekend the WOGO pre-trip team traveled to Antigua, Guatemala to meet with the hospital leadership and staff in preparation for our July medical mission.

It was like coming home.

Guatemala was the site of our second medical mission in 2011. We adored the town of Antigua and the wonderful people we met there. Returning is a great joy and seeing some familiar faces was truly a blessing.

During our trip we screened patient files for more than 65 patients. The hospital has a waiting list of more than 500 people waiting to have orthopedic surgeries. Our trip will help by providing new knee joints to a portion of this list.

The hospital is going through a renovation, so our tour was a bit dusty, but very exciting. We cannot wait to work in these new pristine spaces.

We also spent some time meeting with the hotel staff, and trying out some restaurants. Our team needs to eat while they are in Antigua, and we want them to enjoy their meals. (The team will enjoy the meals – we found lots of delicious food).

Now the work ramps up, as we have to finish gathering the items we need for the trip. Then we will pack up and ship out our 9000 pounds of cargo which should arrive in Guatemala about a month before we do.

We are in need of many items for the trip, some of which you can donate. Visit our Amazon Wish List to choose items that can be purchased and ship directly to our warehouse. Or if you prefer to help us with the cost of shipping and travel you can donate directly to WOGO online or using Venmo at @WOGO-Missions.

Lots to be done, so we’re off to work! Thanks for your support.
